Terms of Use
EFFECTIVE 3 AUGUST 2026
These terms govern your use of TrueTotal (the website at truetotalcalculator.com, its API and any related tools). They are written to be read, not to be survived — plain sentences, no buried traps. By using TrueTotal you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. Who we are

2. What the service does
TrueTotal is a comparison engine that estimates the true total cost of a purchase — the advertised price plus the costs that usually get left out, minus what you can expect to recover on resale. It covers many categories, from a second-hand jacket to a yacht charter, and it ranks options by that true total together with quality and verified impact.
- It is an information service. We do not sell anything, take bookings, hold payments, or act as agent for any seller. When you decide to buy, you leave TrueTotal and transact with a third party on their terms.
- Figures are computed estimates. Every number is produced by our published methodology from sourced inputs, each carrying a confidence grade and a date. See Pricing & Accuracy for what that does and does not guarantee.
- Rankings are not for sale. No payment, affiliate relationship or commercial arrangement can raise a listing’s position. This is the core promise of the service and it is enforced structurally — see Editorial Standards.
- It is free. There is no subscription, no paywall and no account required for the public tools.
3. Your agreement to these terms
3.1By accessing or using TrueTotal you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which are incorporated by reference.
3.2If you use TrueTotal on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind that organisation, and “you” includes it.
3.3These terms apply to the public website, the API and any tool we publish under the TrueTotal name, unless that tool carries its own terms that say otherwise.
4. Age requirement
TrueTotal is intended for people aged 16 or over. It is a general-audience information service and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16; if we learn that we have, we delete it. See Privacy Policy.
5. Your responsibilities
Using TrueTotal well means a few obligations on your side. You agree to:
- Verify before you commit. Check the actual price, availability, fees and terms with the seller before you spend money. Our estimates are a starting point for a decision, never the final word on it.
- Use your own judgement. Only you know your circumstances. A figure that is right on average may be wrong for you.
- Give accurate information when you submit a correction or contact us, so we can act on it.
- Comply with the law of the country you are using the service from.
6. Acceptable use
You may use TrueTotal freely for your own purchasing decisions, research, and to link to or cite our pages. You may not:
- Scrape, harvest or bulk-download the site or its data by automated means, or use it to build a competing dataset. We publish an API for legitimate programmatic use — ask us.
- Republish our figures as your own, or strip the sourcing, dates and confidence grades that make them honest. Reproducing a number without its provenance defeats the entire point of this service.
- Interfere with the service — no attempts to overload, disrupt, probe or gain unauthorised access, no circumventing rate limits or security controls, no malware. (Good-faith security research is welcome and protected under our responsible disclosure policy.)
- Misrepresent your affiliation with TrueTotal, or use our name, logo or trade marks in a way that suggests endorsement or partnership without written permission.
- Manipulate rankings or reviews, or submit corrections in bad faith to advantage a business.
- Use the service unlawfully, including to infringe others’ rights or breach applicable law.
7. Intellectual property
7.1The site, its design, code, text, the TrueTotal name and logo, and our methodology, compilations and computed figures are owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright, database and trade mark law.
7.2We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the service for your own non-commercial purchasing decisions.
7.3Underlying facts — a manufacturer’s stated price, an official tax rate — are not ours and we claim no ownership of them. Our rights sit in the selection, computation and presentation.
7.4Third-party names, logos and product images belong to their owners and appear for identification only. Their presence is not endorsement in either direction.

8. Accounts
The public tools need no account. Where we provide an operator or partner login, you are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account, and you agree to tell us promptly at security@truetotalcalculator.com if you suspect unauthorised use. We may suspend an account we reasonably believe is compromised or being misused.
9. Anything you submit
When you send us a correction, an error report or a message, you keep ownership of it, and you grant us a licence to use it to operate and improve the service. Full details, including moderation and how to withdraw something, are in the User Content Policy.
10. Third-party sites and sellers
TrueTotal links out to retailers, brokers, operators and other third parties. We do not control them. Their prices, availability, terms, privacy practices and content are theirs alone, and your dealings with them are between you and them. See the Third-Party Links Disclaimer for the detail.
11. How we make money
Some outbound links are affiliate links: if you buy after following one, the seller may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. This funds a free, ad-free service. It does not, and structurally cannot, influence which options we show or how they rank. Every such link is labelled. See Affiliate Disclosure and Advertising Disclosure.
12. No professional advice
TrueTotal provides general information only. It is not financial, investment, tax, legal, accounting, insurance, medical or other professional advice, and no client or advisory relationship is created by your use of it. 13. Disclaimer of warranties
13.1The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
13.2We do not warrant that figures are accurate, current or complete, that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that defects will be corrected. We work hard at all three and publish our corrections in the open — but we cannot guarantee them.
13.3Nothing in this section limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot lawfully be excluded.
14. Limitation of liability
Our liability is limited as set out in full in the Limitation of Liability policy, which forms part of these terms. In summary, and subject always to your non-excludable consumer rights: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit or lost opportunity, or for decisions you take based on our estimates; and our total aggregate liability is capped as described there.
15. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your misuse of the service or your breach of these terms — to the extent the law permits, and excluding anything caused by our own breach or negligence. This clause does not apply to consumers where local law prohibits it.
16. Availability, changes and termination
16.1We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the service, and we may add or remove categories, listings or features. We aim to give notice of material changes but may act immediately where security or law requires.
16.2We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, or if we must to comply with law or protect the service or its users.
16.3You may stop using TrueTotal at any time. Sections that by their nature survive — intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, governing law — continue to apply.
17. Force majeure
We are not liable for failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including infrastructure or network failure, outages at our hosting or data providers, cyber-attack, fire, flood, epidemic, industrial action, war, or governmental action. Where such an event persists, either of us may treat the affected obligations as suspended for its duration.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service or the law changes. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version, and we will highlight material changes on the site. Continuing to use TrueTotal after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, please stop using the service.
19. Governing law and disputes
19.1Governing law. These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of Ireland.
19.2Jurisdiction. The courts of Ireland have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in the EU/EEA, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your own country and may also bring proceedings there.
19.3Talk to us first. Most problems are faster to fix directly. Please contact support@truetotalcalculator.com and we will try to resolve it — our escalation route is on the Help & Complaints page.
19.4Online dispute resolution. EU consumers may use the European Commission’s ODR platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. Data-protection complaints can go to the Irish Data Protection Commission.
20. General
- Entire agreement. These terms and the policies they reference are the whole agreement between us on this subject.
- Severability. If a provision is held unenforceable, the rest continues in force and the provision is read down to the minimum extent necessary.
- No waiver. Not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these terms without our consent. We may assign them to a successor of the business, and the un-buyable-ranking commitment binds any successor.
- Language. The English version prevails if a translation conflicts with it.

A note on length
These terms are deliberately shorter than the 5,000–12,000 words a template of this kind often runs to. Length is not the same as protection: every clause here does a job, and padding it with boilerplate that contradicts how TrueTotal actually works would make it less accurate, not more enforceable. When counsel reviews this, they may well add jurisdiction-specific clauses — that is the right reason to grow it.
